The Dreidel Song

I Have a Little Dreidel

I have a little dreidel,
I made it out of clay.
When it's dry and ready,
Then dreidel I shall play.

Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,
I made it out of clay.
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,
Then dreidel I shall play.

This week will be all about Hanukah! Happy Hanukah to all of our friends and families who celebrate!

The Pirate Sound

The Pirate Sound
There once was a pirate long ago
Who loved the a - r sound you know.
When he saw a word with an a and r
You could hear him calling near and far.
car   jar   ar! ar! ar!
tar  star   ar! ar! ar!
par  bar   ar! ar! ar!
arm         harm       charm
That pirate sailed the ocean blue
In search of gold and silver too.
But, the greatest treasure that there could be
Was an a - r word that he could read!

Twin Day!

On twin day we made twin bracelets to finish our current math unit on patterning. Only a few students were able to make twin bracelets. It is harder than it looks!

Comparing Candy

We worked a bit of math and science into our Halloween Festivities

First we discussed what our senses are, and why we use our senses to observe things.

We also talked about how you should NEVER taste something to observe it unless your parent or teacher tells you that it is safe.

Then, as a group we sorted ways that 2 different candies could be the same and different. There are Rockets on the left (in the USA they call these "Smarties"), and some "Bones and Skulls" on the right (they are like Runts)

Then we described and compared our own candy. Every student remembered to bring in their 2 candies. Pats on the back all around.

I'm so happy that Halloween only comes once a year :)

Tints and Shades

We learned about tints and shades of a colour!

Then we worked it into Halloween!

First we made some tints of orange (by adding white).
Then we made some shades of orange (by adding black)

Then we drew on some faces with marker, crayon or pencil crayon.

Where's my Mummy?

First we read the book, Where's My Mummy?

Then we made some connections to the text....
Have you ever lost your Mommy?

Then we made some mummies :)

Tearing masking tape off of the roll was sometimes frustrating, but we all managed to make a mummy!

Halloween Pumpkins

First we drew a pumpkin (by looking at a real one)
Then we painted the pumpkin by mixing yellow and red paint (even though we used orange paper -- it gave it more depth)

Then we added black and white paper to make the features.

(you can always click on the photos to see them larger)

Poppy we are but children small,
We are too little to do it all.
Children you may do your part,
Loving each other is how you start.
